• WHAT will be done
Description:
Tähteitä Nolla! – campaign challenges primary school students to appreciate food and reduce the amount of food leftovers. Schools get campaign materials which instruct students how to reduce the amount of food left over and instructions how to participate. Kitchen personel play a key role in the campaign. They measure the amount of leftover food during the week and fill a participation form including questions “What was for lunch at the school today?”, “Amount of organic waste” and “The number of eaters”. After a week the forms are returned and results analyzed and a press release will be issued based on the results.
The similar campaign is held at the day care centers except the small children (1-6 years old) do not compeet with the amount of food waste. Small children are not responsible of the amount of food at their plates, because adults give the plates to them. Therefore the campaign materials are used as guidelines and for educational purposes such as discussions on how much food is enough at the plate.
