The Custodians Plastic Race lands in Venice. The innovative format of cleaning entire cities and natural areas started as a race against time to clean the planet of plastic in Genoa in June 2023, on the occasion of the arrival of The Ocean Race. From the capital of Liguria, it completed the first round of Italy with the Marina Militare Nastro Rosa Tour, up to the end of the Adriatic Sea. The Venice Lagoon clean-up will take place over the weekend of 18 and 19 November. The points concerned will be the reports previously made by citizens, who through the CESP application were able to highlight areas of environmental criticality where action is needed. These include salt marshes, smaller islands, canals and submerged waste. Whether it is above or below the water level is of little importance. If it is a source of microplastics, it will be removed. The coordination function of the CESP app is one of the two pillars of the format. Indeed, carrying out simultaneous clean-ups in different areas is only possible with the participation of everyone. The motto is “ALL TOGETHER NOW“. The Custodians Plastic Race makes everyone dress up as a Custodian of the Future, from law enforcement to state agencies, from schools to companies with their employees, from ecological associations to sports centres.
The adhering realities are Marina Militare, Guardia Costiera, Guardia di Finanza, Marevivo Veneto, Poveglia per Tutti, Yacht Club Venezia, Associazione Vela al Terzo, Mare di Carta, IUAV university students and many others.

The day will begin with participants meeting at various designated meeting points, where they will receive instructions and the necessary materials for the clean-up.

In detail, the days will take place according to the following schedule:
18/19 November
a) 9:30 a.m.: Meeting of participants at designated meeting points
b) 9:45 a.m.: Brief welcome speech
c) 10:00 a.m. Briefing on collection methods. Delivery of materials needed for cleaning (waste collection bags, gloves, tools)
d) 10:15 a.m.: The participants divide into groups and drive to the collection areas previously marked on the CESP application in their own boats
e) 11 a.m. – 1 p.m.: Cleaning activities
f) 1- 2.30 p.m.: Break
g) 2.30- 3.30 p.m.: Sorting and weighing of waste. Registration of collected waste and final considerations
h) 4 p.m.: Return to the Certosa Island for the closure of the event and convivial moment
