Every year, millions of tons of packaging waste are generated worldwide, leading to environmental issues such as pollution, resource depletion, and climate change. European Waste Reduction Week provides an opportunity to raise awareness, mobilize communities, and address this critical issue. The use of all packaging waste, regardless of whether it’s plastic, paper, or metal, leads to resource depletion, single-use plastic pollution, waste management challenges, and environmental impacts. During European Waste Reduction Week, there is an opportunity to reduce and reuse packaging waste, promote responsible recycling, support eco-friendly packaging, increase consumer awareness, and encourage sustainable practices. Together, we can make a significant difference in reducing packaging waste and moving towards a more sustainable and environmentally friendly future for the world.

In this context, Hacettepe University plans to contribute to environmental awareness among campus residents by rewarding students who bring

• 10 kg of paper,
• 6 kg of cardboard,
• 4 kg of plastic, or
• 3 kg of metal packaging waste with a thermos cup.

Additionally, students who receive a thermos cup in exchange for their packaging waste will be provided with beverage discounts at specific locations within the Sıhhiye and Beytepe Campuses. In this way, efforts will be made to encourage a reduction in the amount of packaging waste used in beverages, and various packaging wastes held by students will be collected for recycling.
