Trash free lunches also at the Market Place!

Info

WHAT will be done

Description:

Waste reduction at our school is a priority. This activity is a process of enhancing awareness within staff members, students, parents, and people from the outer community. We showed hundreds of people about how we, as individuals, can reduce the amount of trash that we generate, as we believe that simple things can lead to great achievements.

Therefore, after that year after year, we have instilled in our students how to go for a waste free lunch, now we can say from the statistics that we have fulfilled our aim as we succeeded to have full correspondence from all the school community. Thus being aware that much of the trash we generate comes from the packaging of lunch food we know that this was not enough, and after that we have manged to reach our students parents’ and also their relatives, we decided to spread the message by reaching more people in the outer community. So, for this activity students were asked to bring old/unused/unwanted lunchboxes from their homes and relatives. Where quite a good number of them were collected.

We wanted to make the general public aware about the importance of reducing waste by using lunch boxes instead of plastic or paper bags, aluminium foil and wax paper etc.. for their lunch.
Knowing that these bags are extremely convenient, but aware that they are consuming too much waste and therefore it results in an unhealthy environment our children went all out to the market place together with their class teachers and they took the leadership role to be in charge for this challenge.

Students created a friendly environment and managed to convince the people who happened to be at the market place to go for a waste free lunch by using lunch boxes. To encourage them more, lunch boxes were distributed for free of charge to the people. Students showed them that everyone can reduce the amount of waste by delivering the same functionality.

Enthusiastically, to spread widely the message about the importance of reducing waste, children carried out slogans encouraging people to reduce waste which were created at our school from reused material, while they will also made the people aware about the harm being done to the environment when discarding plastic/paper bags, aluminium foil and wax paper.

Thus we can say that by means of this activity we entirely involved ourselves into the EWWR not only for this particular week but also for the everyday life, as we managed to spread the message of dematerialisation by reaching hundreds of people in the outer community.
