Turtle Art Attack

Info

WHAT will be done

Description:

We would like to create a large, 2-D turtle from recyclable plastic. The aim is to raise awareness of how plastic that enters our seas can affect marine wildlife. This is a free event aimed at families.

The Concept and Timeframes
Stage 1: Local children design the turtle to be created (Sept to end Oct)
School children will be invited to produce a design and vote for a winner. Schools will receive a game pack/ homework sheet to introduce them to plastic waste, how it can affect marine wildlife and what they can do to reduce plastic waste. We will advertise this on local media.

Stage 2: We have a day of public engagement day where together with the general public we build a turtle collage from recyclable plastic that is view able from above. (21 or 29 Nov)
Clean recyclable plastic will be sourced for building the turtle. There will be posters and people to explain the exhibit and to provide activity sheets for children to take home. Local groups will be involved in building the turtle and talking to the public. The turtle would be created on a tarp on the floor of the room so it is visible from the window above.

Stage 3: Recycle the plastic and publish the event result (21 or 29 Nov)
We will remove all of the plastic on the event day and recycle it. Visitor numbers and the amount of plastic recycled will be measured and form part of a press release.

Funding and publicity
Local television and radio (e.g. BBC Nottingham, East Midlands Today, Capital FM) will be approached to follow the progress of the project from inception to installation.
