UNUSED REPAIRS
• WHAT will be done
Description:
Unused repairs
The forgotten “R” is “REPAIR” = repairs that are underused, resulting in too much waste.
With the promotion of “Forgotten R”, we are therefore introducing a new, supplemented approach to waste prevention, which includes skills and practices for the recovery of products from the material stream bulky waste and clothing. In the priority of waste management, with the approach for more utilized repairs, we are taking another step closer to the most important direction, and that is how to prevent waste from being generated. The problem we perceive is that people do not know how to fix the simplest products where minimal skills are required, but which have disappeared due to the school system and social changes and need to be reintroduced. Young people do not find themselves in repairs, they do not know the basic skills, so there is a fear of implementing the priority order of waste management, if we allow such a low level of repairs. The Forgotten “R” approach, which illustrates unused repairs, brings a new dimension that puts people’s participation at the forefront, as the product owner and the expert always transfer the repair skills to the product owner. Thus, the Forgotten R project contributes to social change, which through repair activities directs people away from the individualism we are witnessing now and offers them the opportunity to exchange knowledge, skills and communication, which has a positive impact on life in the local community and beyond.
The approach is intended for the general public, especially families with children and the elderly, young people (children in kindergartens and primary school students), municipalities, public service providers.
As consumers are one of the driving forces influencing the use of natural resources and waste through our way of life, we have an important role to play in the transition to a low-carbon society. With the Forgotten R approach, we will also raise awareness about the problem of invisible waste and the importance of reuse.
During the EWWR, we will promote repair options daily with short videos and pictorial representations of simple repairs to clothing, furniture, footwear and household products. We will show the saved resources and the prevention of invisible waste generation.
