Upcycling is one of the best practices in terms of sustainable living. To this direction, DIADYMA S.A., as the official solid waste management body in Western Macedonia region in Greece, and in collaboration with the group of students from the program “Ambassadors school of the European Parliament for the year 2022-2023” of 1^st high school of Kozani and the handmade projects “The Ramma”, have designed and created an open workshop about upcycling on Saturday 19^th at 11:00-13:00, at the central square (Nikis square) in Kozani city. We will create useful items from old textiles (clothes, socks, fabrics, etc.).

More specifically, we collected old textiles from the reuse centers of Western Macedonia. DIADYMA being a pioneer, it is the first venture of a reuse center in municipality level in Greece. The reusable items are stored in 2 reuse centers, one in Kastoria city and one in Florina city. The reuse centers accept household -indoors and outdoors- items and they are available to all citizens for reuse, free of charge. Old textiles that are not suitable for reuse will be now used for the upcycling workshop. The 1^st high school have visited DIADYMA’s reuse center in Kastoria city and collected the textiles. Later in class they learned how to create useful items such us carpets, boxes, bags and other, from those textiles.

“The Ramma” is about handmade projects that promote sustainable consumption by making use of old textiles. Innovative products such as beeswax wraps and reusable bags are some products of what it offers.

All together we cooperate to promote upcylcing and all creations will be shown on Monday 21^st at the school!

On the day of the open workshop (19/11, 11:00-13:00) DIADYMA, students from the 1st high school and with the help of the handmade projects “The Ramma”, we will show to the attendees, how to upcycle old textiles in useful items. The attendees could also bring their own old clothes to try upcycling by themselves.

Our target is to promote reuse and upcycling as good practices, in as many citizens as possible, to raise awareness about the lifecycle of items, especially those that are not suitable for reuse and as a result to promote an eco-friendly habit. We strongly believe that united we can achieve a society with as less waste as possible in the path of zero waste.
