Every Tuesday and Friday, only recyclable (non-domestic waste) is collected by Üsküdar Municipality in Üsküdar unlike other days of the week, . Therefore, it is necessary to ensure that 520,000 citizens living in Üsküdar take out only their recyclable wastes on Tuesdays and Fridays.
In this action, it was aimed to create “Zero Waste” awareness by informing about which wastes, how and where to dispose of wastes, how vegetable wastes should be collected and stored on Tuesday-Friday. In order to achieve this goal, 10 houses in Üsküdar were visited by volunteered university students and informative documents were distributed to the residents and information about the “Zero Waste” policy was given. It was explained that the revenues obtained from the collected recyclable wastes are returned as wheelchairs for our disabled citizens, scholarships for our students, hot meals for our elderly, etc. The special purpose of this action to inform our citizens as a community about these environmental cleaning and waste management activities and to support these activities. In this context, the action directly addresses one of the EWWR priorities, “Waste Separation and Recycling”, and this year’s thematic focus, “Circular Communities”.
