weaving the future with recycled materials

Info

WHAT will be done

Description:

Nowadays, the linear system in the textile industry uses a large amount of resources, but it has a negative effect on human life and the environment. The annual fiber production of 53 million tons and the fact that only less than 1% of it can be recycled into the textile system and 73% of the produced garments are disposed as out of use is an indication of how a growing problem the textile industry is.

Weaving is one of the basic surface formation methods. So many types of materials can be used in woven structure in addition to yarn. In our action: we prefer the recycled materials around us that can be easily reached. Our students are the main participants and they are the key players in our country and also for Europe. Prefering the recycled materials and knowing how to put them in reusing actions will open their future looks.

We will create patterns on basic hand loom (made by cardboard), thinking of the materials to reuse in our action. This is a lecture in our faculty and open for students via remote education system. We will give a short presentation to participants how to use the basic weaving techniques. then the next ones are up to them, it is open-ended action. They may put disused materials in their weaving designs to decorate and enrich.
