WHAT IS THE TRUE COST OF MY CLOTHES?
Sustainable and fair fashion industry

About the event:

Green Istria will organize the event “WHAT IS THE TRUE COST OF MY CLOTHES?
Sustainable and fair fashion industry” in order to promote EWWR week and principles of reducing and reusing of textile but also to address all important issues around textile and fashion industry. Sustainable development cannot be separated from social rights, gender rights and human rights, and besides environmental and waste impact we will tackle all aspects of the problem.

The event will be divided in 3 parts:

1 TEXTILE WASTE CAMPAIGN and SWAP EVENT

On the main square in Umag we will organise a campaign about textile waste with an info-corner about textile waste, sustainability of fashion and textile industry. There will be an INFO-GRAPHIC BOARD about textile waste (in the shape of a wardrobe) and we will distribute leaflets about environmental and social impact of textile production.

Simultaneously, we will organize a SWAP EVENT– people will have the opportunity to exchange clothes, shoes, books and other items and donate old clothes.

2 SCREENING OF THE DOCUMENTARY “THE TRUE COST” in the cinema in Umag with an exhibition of local artists and fashion designers.
THE TRUE COST, Andrew Morgan, USA, 2015, 92'. The documentary is a collage of several interviews with environmentalists, garment workers, factory owners, and people organizing fair trade companies or promoting sustainable clothing production.
EXHIBITION: Local artist Slavica Marin will exhibit her costumes and sculputres made of waste and a local desginer ANIMA M, member of Fashion Revolution Croatia, will also exhibit her work.

3 ROUND TABLE DISCUSSION: “WHAT IS THE TRUE COST OF MY CLOTHES? Sustainable and fair fashion industry” and POP-UP EXIBITION by local zero waste designers – members of Fashion Revolution Croatia movement at the art gallery HUiU in Pula.
Participants of the round table discussion: local fashion designers, journalists, artists, environmental activists, the leader of Fashion Revolution Croatia, the director of the only remaining textile factory in Pula-TEKOP, an ex worker from a textile factory, a sociologist etc.
22/11/2019 at 8 p.m. with an after party – food/drinks and DJ. (Friday)

Events will be promoted via social networks, web pages and local media. Special web and facebook profile about waste “Separate all!”: (www.izdvojisve.info and @izdvojisve ). There will also be an info-point at every event about the EWWR week.
