WHAT will be done

Description:

The event is integral part of the secondary design (up-cycling) contest 4RATU at Kaunas University of Technology. The duration of this contest is half year: since September until the March. The contest is developed and managed by KTU Green University and KTU Design Center and KTU partner KK360. The idea of the contest is promoting sustainable consumption behavior at the University level, encouraging reuse of old objects and responsible approach to the creation of new products using secondary materials and old stuff. Therefore, the participants of the contest will develop their ideas until the real object based on sustainability principles. The auditorium is educated and introduced on various issues related to sustainable consumption and production at monthly events. The second seminar is dedicated to the European Waste Reduction Week.
The program of the event "Zero Waste Driven by Consumption and Production":
– presentation on the Zero Waste concept and examples from the Consumption and Production perspective;
– presentation of the Sustainable Development Goals and in more detail on #12 "Sustainable Consumption and Production" – as the responsibility to manage resources not waste.
– the groups of contest (participants) will present the state of their projects development making reflections how it could contribute to the sustainable consumption and production and making the brain storming how their products would be packed in order to sell (deliver) them in sustainable way.
As EWWR is dedicated to the packaging waste reduction the following activities will reflect the most important issues of packaging problem in Lithuania: disposable coffee cups and plastic bags.
– students' initiative – "More coffee – less cups”. This initiative will encourage students to use the refillable cups, instead of single-use (disposable) ones. The idea is to inform about the environmental impact of disposable cups and to introduce the when using refillable cups (ceramic ones, or personal take-out cups). The visualization of amount of paper cups used instead of refillable one (through the whole life cycle) will present the real difference in the amount of the waste produced.
– the workshop on making reusable bags –KTU Sewing Laboratory will introduce various alternatives and simple technologies how to make reusable bags from the textile. The KTU partner KK360 will introduce possibilities of glass jars usage as alternative for the plastic bags when purchasing bulk products.
