In April 2024, Sacred Heart Junior School held a successful Pre-Loved Book Sale in celebration of World Book Day, teaching students the value of reusing items to prevent waste generation at the source. Every book found a new home, allowing students to experience the joy of reading while learning about sustainability. The funds raised were dedicated to creating calming corners for each year group, each featuring a cozy tent, calming fidget tools, affirmations, and indoor plants. This initiative responded to a need identified through an Eko-Skola survey, where students highlighted the benefits of incorporating more natural elements within the school to enhance well-being, aligning with Sustainable Development Goal 3: Good Health and Well-Being.

In November, the success of the Pre-Loved Book Sale will be re-promoted during the European Week of Waste Reduction (EWWR) 2024. By revisiting this initiative, the school will continue to emphasize the importance of reusing, reducing waste, and fostering a love for reading, while celebrating its positive impact on students’ mental health and the school environment.
