Creating mats from old clothes and fabric scraps.
• WHAT will be done
Description:
Throughout our last Guiding Year, as Guides and Rangers (members aged 11-15), from the 3rd Luqa Girl Guides, we had the opportunity to spent some mornings sorting out donated clothes for those in need. We were shocked by the amount of clothes that were donated. Some of these clothes were brand new and had barely been used, while others were not in a good condition and had to be thrown away. This year, we decided to make good use of clothes that are not in a good condition. We want to give these clothes a new life. After lots of consideration, we came up with the idea to create mats that they can use in our weekly meetings. In our meetings, we usually sit on the floor. It would be a welcome change to have mats that we can sit on, especially now that winter is approaching. It would give us great satisfaction to know that the mats we will be sitting on, were made by ourselves and using materials that are up-cycled. We have already collected and prepared some of the materials we are going to use. We also started practicing the techniques and knots involved to create these mats. We are really looking forward to see these mats come to life during the European Week for waste reduction.
