Food Waste Reduction
• WHAT will be done
Description:
1) The school will gather information and data by observing who is eating or not eating all lunch; why not all lunch is eaten and what is happening with the remaining lunch. A small online questionnaire will be given to parents regarding their children’s lunch. Moreover we’ll publish a graph with the results. Once the results are out students will also write / draw / tick a message to the parents/guardians on their lunch preferences to avoid unnecessary waste.
2) Also the Eco-school committee will email restaurants that offer buffet to inform them about our food waste reduction project and try to convince them putting on a sign ‘what you leave on the plate, you need to pay for’.
3) When fundraising school activities concern healthy food such as (smoothies day, soup day and other healthy food), in order to avoid waste, a tasting spoon will be given beforehand. If they like it, they can have as much as they want. If there is any leftovers, they will be frozen for the next activity or distributed among the staff. (Example: leftover smoothies can be frozen into healthy ice-lollies)
