Sustainable Trophies

Info

WHAT will be done

Description:

To reduce the environmental impact of the 2018 Annual Northern Ireland Environmental Benchmarking Survey we are awarding sustainable trophies.

The trophies which will be awarded to our ‘Platinum’ level participants at the launch of the Survey results on 22 November were made by local supplier, David Keys Sustainable Woodworking. The trophies are made from broken fencing posts and offcuts from a shed manufacturer, and the glass inlays were made out of used glass from Bombay Sapphire gin bottles, making them truly circular. David runs what he calls an ‘unplugged’ workshop, where he uses ‘old-school’ hand tools wherever possible to reduce energy consumption. Most of the tools he uses date back to before the Second World War and he has recovered these, restoring each back to its original condition.
