Upcycling Don’t Waste

Info

WHAT will be done

Description:

Waste is beautiful.

This project aims to combine environmental education and practice through UPCYCLING. We consider that with upcycling you do not only have an impact to the environment but as well we want to use it through this project to a social cause. This will be achieved by transforming spaces through using waste in a space that supports women in the village we will be living; empower youth by giving them the necessary tools to understand that every piece of waste is an opportunity to learn and develop a more responsible consumption; and become part of the European Week for Waste Reduction (EWWR), which following this initiative we will promote the implementation of awareness-raising actions about sustainable resource and waste management, encouraging a community to rethink their waste. How we will achieve that? We will be in contact with relevant authorities and we will be using waste to transform it into ART, REDESIGN furniture and ENCOURAGE a campaign in the local community to adapt more sustainable actions.

The main objectives of the project are:

1. To inspire people to change towards a lifestyle with less negative impact to our planet.
2. To empower youth using non formal and experiential learning, workshop and activities. Experiencing sustainable alternatives and living in a rural space.
3. ART-cycle: Changing perception of waste into primary material through art and transformation.
5. Work on the Precious Plastic machines we are developing.
6. Analyse the impact of our lifestyle in the environment through different activities and acquire skills to reduce it.
7. To promote European programs such as Erasmus + and collaborate with European level initiatives such as the EWWR, giving a special focus to a personal and community level sustainable development.

From the 14th of November until the 22nd of November we are collecting waste and aim to use it creatively for transforming it into art pieces and redesigning public spaces.

All this happening within a team of 24 people from 4 countries, Cyprus, Belgium, Spain and Italy. On the 21st of November, we are exhibiting what we will create during that week at the center of Dali, a town in an industrial area with big amounts of waste being produced daily.
