Wrap it up with Beeswax – A sustainable Alternative to Plastic
• WHAT will be done
Description:
A total of 585 students ranging from Year 1 to Year 6 will actively participate in a cleanup initiative spanning various locations across Malta. These locales include the school premises, beach cleanup sites, and other significant areas. The cleanup event is scheduled for the 21st of April, just one day prior to Earth Day. Notably, this endeavor will not be limited to students alone; it will also involve the active participation of educators, local organizations, such as municipal councils and environmental cleanup groups, as well as parents or guardians. Awareness will be still be done during that week.
In a complementary action, the Ekoskola committee will work towards raising awareness about plastic use and presenting alternatives to conventional packaging, such as the eco-friendly option of beeswax wraps. Building upon a prior collaboration with BeesNeez and De La Salle College, the committee plans to share a series of video clips during the European Week for Waste Reduction (EWWR). Furthermore, Ekoskola intends to introduce the concept of beeswax wraps through video clips, special assemblies, and workshops, encouraging other students to embrace this sustainable alternative and reduce their reliance on plastic and excessive packaging.
To ensure the widespread dissemination of these initiatives, information and updates will be shared across various social media platforms and featured in newspaper articles.
